Smooth Transitions into Alternative Provision

Every young person's journey through education is unique. We provide a structured, transparent, and welcoming admissions process to ensure success.

Who Can Refer to Active Futures Academy?

Placements at Active Futures Academy are commissioned by:

  • Mainstream Secondary & Primary Schools: Early intervention, dual-registration, and respite placements.
  • Local Authorities: Wigan Council, Bolton Council, Lancashire County Council, and neighboring GM authorities.
  • Multi-Academy Trusts (MATs): Centralized inclusion and tiered alternative provision solutions.
  • Fair Access & Managed Move Panels: Rapid re-engagement for pupils following permanent exclusion.

We work in full alignment with the commissioning school or authority to ensure educational continuity and statutory compliance.

Candidate Profiles We Support

  • Key Stage 2, 3, or 4 learners (Ages 7 to 16).
  • Learners exhibiting Social, Emotional & Mental Health (SEMH) needs.
  • Young people with school avoidance, sensory overwhelm, or persistent low attendance.
  • Pupils at risk of suspension or permanent exclusion from mainstream schools.
  • Pupils with or without an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP).

The 5-Step Transition Framework

We remove fear and anxiety by following a clear, five-stage pathway from initial referral to full induction.

1

Referral & Initial Information Gathering

The commissioning school or Local Authority completes our secure online referral form. We review the pupil's academic profile, attendance records, safeguarding history, and any EHCP or SEND documentation.

2

Compatibility & Pastoral Consultation

Our senior team reviews the referral to verify that Active Futures Academy can meet the learner's needs. We consult directly with the home school's SENCO or pastoral lead and hold an initial discussion with parents/carers.

3

Academy Visit & Taster Experience

The student and their family/carers are invited for an informal, relaxed visit to tour our facilities, meet Pete, Nicola, and the staff, and discuss the learner's interests (sports, arts, technology).

4

Bespoke Timetable & Home School SLA

We establish a tailored timetable (part-time transition or full-time placement), select their specialist pathway (Active, Creative, or Blended), and finalize the Service Level Agreement (SLA) with the home school.

5

Induction & Ongoing Milestone Reviews

The learner begins their placement with dedicated 1:1 keyworker support. We provide daily attendance reporting to the home school and hold structured 6-week progress reviews with all stakeholders.

Daily Attendance & Safeguarding SLA for Home Schools

We recognize that commissioning schools retain legal and statutory safeguarding responsibility for dual-registered pupils.

Our Attendance Guarantee: Active Futures Academy completes morning and afternoon roll calls promptly. Home schools receive formal attendance confirmation by 10:00 AM daily, with immediate phone escalation for any unexplained absence.
